Thursday was the last day for committee meetings. This coming week will be the last week for the 2nd and 3rd readings. After next Thursday, the legislators have until March 14 to hammer out details in number conference committees.

As you will see from the bill lists several bills that we had been watching did not get a committee hearing in the second chamber such as SB 003 Dispensing of Drugs by Pharmacists.

HB 1172 Various Professions and Occupations
This increasingly larger bill was amended in committee last Wednesday. Included in the bill was the language from HB 1020, Umbilical Cord Blood, that was pulled from 2nd reading because of the proposed amendments that had been filed on it. SB 363 Uniform Emergency Health Practitioners Act, passed the Senate but got bogged down in the House was also added to HB 1172.

Nurse Licensure Compact remains in the bill. An amendment supported by the Attorney General was adopted to require that investigations re: a nurse's license remain confidential until charges are filed with the Board of Nursing (current law).

Of course, it is not over until the legislators adjourn sine die on the March 14th. Donât forget, the House and Senate proceedings can be viewed over the Web. If you have any questions, donât hesitate to contact me.
