On March 15 the ISNA-Nurse PAC held its annual Breakfast with the Legislators in the State House Atrium. The first legislator to arrive was Sen. Robert Garton, President Pro Tem of the Indiana Senate. He spent approximately an hour conversing with the nurses who attended. Approximately fifteen of his Senate colleagues and over twenty members of the Indiana House of Representatives soon joined Senator Garton. Even Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and State Treasurer Tim Berry stopped to chat as they made their way to their respective State House offices.

After a brief information session at the ISTA building with other conference registrants, the nurses returned to the State House and observed a meeting of the House Public Health Committee in the House Chambers. The group then returned to the ISTA building for a box lunch, and they were soon joined by Rep. Peggy Welch, RN, (D-Bloomington), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Welch discussed various proposals affecting nurses that were under consideration by the Indiana General Assembly.

Earlier in the session a number of nursing students also attended a conference in Indianapolis that provided them background of the workings of the Indiana General Assembly and how a bill is enacted. The students also attended a meeting of the House Public Health Committee in the House Chambers following the educational conference.
