MY ISNA
Indiana's Nursing Leaders Share Their Values |
 |
Terre,
Pediatric Staff Nurse
|
"ISNA represents Indiana nurses in
all walks of nursing practice, not just a particular specialty area.
While nursing specialty organizations are good (I belong to two), ISNA
allows its members to network with nurses outside of their specialty
group.
I am a staff nurse and while I have practiced many years in pediatrics,
it has been invaluable the information I have received from my ISNA
colleagues when I have encountered other situations outside of my work
setting in regard to elderly family members, friends, etc.
ISNA, as a state constituent member of the American Nurses Association
(ANA), keeps me very aware of the most current issues in nursing on the
national and state levels. I found this information very helpful when
the hospital where I work decided to apply for Magnet status this past
year.
I truly believe that all nurses in Indiana should belong to ISNA. It
makes our nursing voice stronger, and it is a voice which speaks in many
ways for all nurses, both members and non-members. Because of this, I
think all nurses should share in the support of ISNA."

Protecting the Nursing
Profession |
|
ISNA monitors legislation and proposed rules
changes at the state level. Each session of the Indiana General Assembly,
the Indiana State Nurses Association tracks over 100 bills that have an effect on Indiana's nurses. In addition, we attend hearings
and study commission meetings and provide expert testimony to committees
and review groups. ISNA staff and lobbyists are at the Indiana State House
every day the legislature is in session and during any meetings throughout
the year where the nursing profession is discussed.
We also keep our members informed about
pending legislation at the federal level which is monitored by the
American Nurses Association. |

Advocacy for Nursing |
|
Representing and supporting nursing is a primary mission of the
association. For more than 100 years, ISNA has been there to advance and
protect the profession. We regularly meet with state legislators and
government representatives about topics of interest to nurses. ISNA
monitors the legislative sessions and is relied upon by officials to
provide expert testimony and feedback on matters that are being reviewed
and debated.
In the past legislative session, ISNA monitored more than 150 bills
that had potential impacts on standards of practice and the care nurses
provide to their patients.
ANA performs similar work at the national level to advocate and
represent the nurses at the national level.
